We currently have a full-time opportunity available for a Patient Care Associate/Front Desk Professional for our Bethlehem surgery center!

Duties and Responsibilities:


Administrative Duties:

  • Greet and register patients arriving at Surgery Center
  • Support the Front Desk Receptionist activities
  • Answer incoming calls
  • Assemble and review records according to unit standard
  • Record records into electronic system according to Surgery Center Standards
  • Perform general office duties
  • Schedule appointments for patients as required
  • Review insurance paperwork to ensure forms are completed and information is accurate
  • Scan information and identification cards into practice management system
  • Ensure patient reviews all policies and procedures as required by the Surgery Center and have them sign off on acknowledgement of such policies
  • Review the Conditions of Admission document with each patient, ensure they understand it and sign and date and then scan into the electronic health records
  • Collect payment for services including, copays, deductibles and self-pay rates
  • Assist in calling patients to provide arrival times or cancellations or moves as necessary
  • Assist in scanning documentation into the computer system or folders as directed by your supervisor or the Clinical Manager
  • Assist in updating or modifying the Center’s patient schedule as directed
  • Perform other front office duties a directed, or as appropriate to ensure a smooth and efficient operation of the Center’s front office


Clinical Duties:

  • Coordinate communication between patients, their parent(s)/ guardian(s), family, medical staff and administrative staff
  • Identify patient, escort patient to pre-op, operating room, or post-op
  • Measure or observe the measuring of vital signs, weight, and height
  • Record patients' medical history, vital statistics, or information requested by medical team
  • Assist in preparing center for next day cases including picking cases, room preparation, preop and PACU room preparation
  • May operate or assist in operating various mechanical devices
  • May transport patients via wheelchair or stretcher within the Surgery Center
  • Assist with transport from the preoperative area to the operative area as well as to the post-operative area and discharge
  • Direct patient/parent inquires to appropriate medical staff member to ensue satisfactory resolution
  • Prepare examine and procedure / treatment rooms, keeping the rooms neat and clean according to Surgery Center standards
  • Assist nurses with various preoperative, postoperative, and intraoperative care, such as handing them instruments or materials, reordering notes, etc.
  • Disinfection and sterilization of instruments in accordance with AAMI and Infection Control standards
  • Assist in putting all supplies away in rooms, carts and the supply rooms
  • Perform routine checks of equipment, record data on logs, and report any variances to management
  • Complete monthly checklists
  • Inventory, restock and order medical, or office supplies or equipment as needed
  • Follow all Surgery Center safety procedures, protocols and precautions
  • Perform other clinical duties a directed, or as appropriate to ensure a smooth and efficient operation of the Surgery Center


Dental Assistant Functions:


Assist in room preparation

Learn how to utilize and troubleshoot all dental equipment

Take detailed notes during the procedure of what was completed

Assist in room cleanup and turnover

Provide break and lunch relief to the dental assistants as necessary


Minimum Requirements


  • High School Graduate
  • Three (3) or more related years of experience in surgical / clinical environment
  • Ideal candidate will have received training from an accredited Medical Assistant School which included basic clinical and administrative skills
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively
  • Knowledge of and experience with computers, word processing systems and data entry
  • Knowledge of and experience with electronic medical records (EMRs) preferred
  • Ability to multi-task and prioritize
  • Possess problem-solving and critical thinking skills
  • Ability to successfully pass all pre-employment background screenings and reference checking, including but not limited to FBI Fingerprint based background check for childcare employment, PA State Child Abuse Clearance, PA State Police Criminal Records Check (PATCH), seven (7) year state and county criminal background check, pre-employment drug-screening, and professional reference check.

Individual must occasionally lift and/or move up to 40 pounds. Individual occasionally may be required to move, by pushing or pulling up 100 pounds. Repetitive motion of upper body required for extended use of computer. Required specific vision abilities include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.



Work Environment:

The Surgery Center is open Monday thru Friday and every other Saturday. In the working environment of the Surgery Center, there may be potential exposure to communicable diseases, contaminated blood and body fluids and hazardous materials.
