Responsibilities

 

 

We currently have a full-time opportunity avialable for a dental hygienist in our Drexel Hill office location!  The dental hygienist will pan, coordinate, oversee and provide patient care for all ages in all areas within the dental standards of practice and the policies of CDHA.  Make decisions regarding direct patient care needs and communicate appropriate information to other team members.  Help maintain equipment, supplies, and the cleanliness and efficiency of the office.

 

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:

 

  • Review all hygiene patients charts to: check medical histories, what x-rays will be needed, behaviors from previous visits, and make sure that patient is actually due for an exam/cleaning
  • If x-rays are being done provide reason: yearly, watches on certain teeth, if work was not completed, etc. Only take x-rays if you are certificated by the state of PA; if you are not x-ray certified have someone else who is take the x-rays. 
  • Make sure that medical history was updated into the computer. This includes putting in alerts
  • If it is a new patient verify with parent when the patient’s last exam and cleaning was (you need to make sure that they are due for an exam and cleaning)
  • Input proper notes into the patient’s chart
  • Clean patients teeth – scale if necessary, polish, floss, fluoride treatment
  • Give homecare instructions
  • Assist exam with dentist, chart caries, extractions, conditions, etc.
  • Clean areas after each patient are gone following OSHA Guidelines. This includes:  Wiping the chair down, wiping down the light, wiping down the countertops, etc. with a disinfectant wipe. Making sure the area on the floor around the chair is clean of debris, walking the instruments over to sterilization area
  • Clean and sterilize all instruments following OSHA Guidelines. This includes:  scrubbing the instruments, packing the instruments, running the instruments through the statim or autoclave
  • Plan, implement, and evaluate dental care for patients based on individual, specific patient needs and according to dentist’s orders
  • Give Practice Manager copy of your Hygiene License each year that your license is renewed
  • Maintain CE Credits required by state of PA
  • Availability to travel between office locations
  • Maintain an open line of communication with other Dental Assistants, EFDAs, Hygienist, Front Desk, Office Supervisors and/or Office Manager, Practice Manager, and Dentists regarding issues important to meeting the needs of patients

 

Qualifications

 

  • Graduate of an approved school of Hygiene
  • Currently licensed in PA with Hygiene License
  • CPR certified
  • Cleared through the State of PA to work on children: determined through Criminal Background Check, Finger Printing, and Child Abuse Clearance
